Summer 2014 anime preview: Magimoji Rurumo

Majimoji RurumoA high school pervert summons a witch who can grant his every wish and that’s the most important thing you need to know about Majimoji Rurumo.

By choosing a perverted route Majimoji Rurumo walks a dangerous line when it comes to slapstick comedy, but it manages to deliver laughs without being disgustingly creepy.

Completely overt in his presentation, the show’s protagonist, Kouta Shibaki, makes all the typical jokes you’d expect from his archetypal character. He’ll do anything to reach what he believes is the highest stage of manliness in life: sneaking a panty shot or whiling away his days with any girlfriend as long as she’s attractive.

His twisted morals and idiotic ideals are so surreal that they’re hilarious to watch. When he’s presented with a life or death scenario — return Rurumo’s panties to save her from a 130-year prison term in exchange for his life — he saves her and Rurumo spares Shibaki by taking a witch demotion that seals her magic.

Now, Rurumo must get a human to use 666 magic tickets in order to break her seal and with Shibaki holding the ticket book, it’s easy to imagine what kind of hijinks to expect from the rest of Majimoji Rurumo’s run.

Rurumo’s talking cat familiar sneaks into Shibaki’s room at the end of the first episode to warn him that using all of his tickets could endanger his life, so there’s at least some stakes for him to consider, but don’t look for anything too serious here.

Majimoji Rurumo a comedy featuring a perverted high school boy that was known as the “Upskirt Expert” for flipping skirts in elementary and the “Great Porno King” for lending out magazines in junior high. You should quickly understand whether this fan service show is for you or not.

Rating: 3/5
