Yo, what’s going on in August Kevin?

A lot!

This August is going to be a busy one for me. Here’s a schedule to give you an idea of what I’ll be getting up to. You can bookmark this page, and I’ll update and link to each item as the content goes live.

Edmonton International Folk Music Festival (August 8-11)

I’ve been a Folk Fest regular for the last 10 consecutive Summers, and I don’t intend to break my streak in 2013. However, what I am looking forward to this weekend is the chance to see two of my all-time favourite artist perform in my home town.

Feist will be playing a set on Thursday (tonight), and Alex Cuba will be rocking the hill on Saturday and Sunday. Once I’ve stopped fangirling, tearing up the merchandise tent, and grabbing a few autographs, you can bet that I’ll have concert reviews published for each of their shows. It’s been a few years since I’ve heard either artist perform live, and I’m looking forward to analyzing their growth (or –God forbid – their regression).
Projected publish date: Monday, August 12.

Cariwest Summer Festival (August 10-11)

If you’re hanging out in Edmonton this weekend and don’t have tickets to Folk Fest, you could come check out Trincan Steel Orchestra – a steel pan band that I’m a member of. We play a mix of traditional and popular Caribbean festival songs, and international pop-covers.

We will be playing tunes on a float in the Cariwest Parade through the downtown core at noon on Saturday, and we’ll be playing two sets in the Churchill Square Caribbean Village on Sunday between 3:45p.m. and 5:45p.m.

Garden of Words

This movie landed itself a North American release this week, and I think it’s worth critiquing. I plan to review it next week.
Projected publish date: Tuesday, August 13.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

This is a game I’ve been following for a while. I just purchased it today, and I’m looking forward to reviewing it next week.
Projected publish date: Wednesday, August 14.

Edmonton international Fringe Festival (August 15-25)

Similar to the Folk Fest, I attend the Fringe every year. This year, I’ll be reviewing every show that I see (between 15 and 25). Check out this post to see an updating list of the shows I’m seeing and when you can expect each review.

Hate Plus (August 19)

Analogue: A Hate Story is a game that I completed and enjoyed when it launched last year. I’ve been itching to dig into Christine Love’s sequel, Hate Plus, for ages now, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do on August 19. Look for a review that week.
Projected publish date: Sunday, August 25.

NHL 14

Near the end of August every feature of NHL 14 should be detailed. I’ll post some analysis and a wrapup of the proposed updates – and in the event that a demo is released, I’ll include my impressions.

Pax Prime (August 30 – September 2)

I am attending PAX prime. I’m going to see a lot of games and talk to a lot of people, but be sure to let me know if there’s something specific that you’d like me to cover. I’ll publish some of my haul here, on my blog, and some of it will appear in the griff throughout September.

As you can see, I’m keeping pretty busy this month. My vacation is officially over.
