Summer 2014 anime previews

Summer 2014 Anime PreviewsI position myself as a writer who focuses primarily on video games, but as I’ve heard so many freelancers tell me: “diversifying your portfolio is a must if you want to succeed.” Therefore, anime previews incoming.

I’ve never been worried about my ability to write about anything that an editor throws at me, but when it comes to writing about what I care about and demonstrating to potential employers that I’m qualified to do so on a professional level, I thought I’d I publish some words about what’s probably my second love.

Over the last six years, I’ve watched between 12 and 20 currently airing shows from Japan each season of from various genres. There are great shows among them every time and just as often, I end up watching some stinkers. This practice has made be pretty good and getting a feel for a show early on and deciding whether I want to commit my time to watching it, and my feelings can probably translate to others if I write them down.

Unsurprisingly, one of the most prominent English anime-related websites, Anime News Network, does just that. It has its writers use their experience to write first impressions of new shows as they air each season. Following its model, I’m going to do the same thing over the next few days. I’ll update this post with links and scores as the shows air and I write the previews.

Here’s what I plan to preview:

Glasslip — 3/5
Shirogane no Ishi Argevollen — 2/5
Tokyo Ghoul — 5/5
Rail Wars! — 1/5
Sword Art Online II — 3/5
